EVAC Monthly Meeting Speaker Schedule for 2008
January 18th -
Dr. Mark Bierner, the Director of Boyce Thompson Arboretum will talk about Biodiversity - Not Just for Scientists Anymore.
The talk will will examine the definition and meaning of biodiversity. Dr. Bierner will also discuss why some people claim there is
a biodiversity crisis and also cover what is happening at Boyce Thompson that is related to biodiversity.
February 15th - Gary Jarrett will talk about his entry into CCD photography.
March 21st -
Lowell astronomers Ted Dunham and Georgi Mandushev will talk about the latest discovered Exosolar Planet TrES3, .
April 18th - Kevin Schindler,
Manager of Public Outreach for Lowell Observatory will be discussing some of the history of Lowell
Observatory with special emphasis on the Clark telescope.
May 16th
- Clyde Hostetter Professor Emeritus California Polytechnic State University will talk about
a 112-year eclipse cycle and synodic periods of Venus that apparently nobody had noticed before, plus a lot more.
June 20th - AJ Crayon will give a talk on
"Star Clusters – looking deeper".
July 18th - Tom Polakis will talk about Lunar and Planetary imaging.
August 15th - Don Wrigley will give a talk on Lunar Observing.
September 19th - Louis Poli will will talk about the 1987
supernova in the Magellanic Cloud.
October 17th - Rob Pinkerton Technical Program Manager (GLAST) will talk about the Fermin Gamma Ray Burst Satellite.
November 21th - TBD
